• With the plethora of rules and regulations, health and safety requirements and the demands of running a complex educational establishment organisation, it is easy to relegate your Insurance portfolio to the back burner, to be examined from time to time as and when circumstances demand, or at worst left from year to year without revision, as we know is sometimes the case.
• Balens are not salespeople, or target driven - we don't rank our clients according to how much we earn from them! We act rather like an unobtrusive extension of your staff (without the overheads!) proactively supporting and advising you in the background and notifying you when changes or adjustments need to be made. We have an educational role ourselves in our relationships with our clients and in the way we convey information. We of course proactively respond to client requests in an efficient, intelligent and timely manner.
• We regularly make personal visits and submit reports (as often or as little as you like) so that you will always have an audit trail on what was discussed, considered and agreed and for what reason. Admin Staff can change over time, and this history in a succinct form can be invaluable in handovers, for example.
• An Ethical, 4th Generation family business founded in 1950, Balens is currently run by David Balen, his two sons and a friendly, supportive team of Managers and Advisors. We are pulled by growth rather than driven by it and are not solely motivated by profit. We have an ethos that includes supporting not for profit organisations. We have a culture of self development and education within the company, and conduct Insurance and Financial information & awareness clinics for client organisations as part of the service if required.
• We insure a variety of schools, training organisations, charities and not for profit organisations. Our Managing Director is also involved as a trustee of an educational charity and two other charities involved in the Health Sector, he is also involved in the education of health professionals and others as visiting lecturer at Oxford Brookes, Middlesex and other Universities and has collaborated with Westminster University on a risk management project. He writes articles of an educational nature for various professional associations and training bodies.
  
• We like to offer competitive rates for our clients as these are inevitably at the top of most insurance revision agendas. However, good advice and experience can also save money and time. We also like to offer convenience, flexibility and choice. Our expertise in business insurance goes back over 60 years, and we pride ourselves on our consultancy, advice and claims support, which includes personal out of hours contact in an emergency.
• Balens add to this a consultancy role which results in added support for your hard-pressed administration team. We explore the cover and how that relates to the individual activities of the establishment, pointing out possible vulnerabilities in the policies, and provide solutions as situations and needs change.
• There are certain areas of cover which need specialist focus - particularly around policy wordings for directors, trustees and governors' protection, employment law and issues, travel insurance arrangements, abuse and the various liability covers.
• Small enough to care yet large enough to cope, we are always looking for ways to improve what we do for our clients, who report a high satisfaction rate.
• We retain an old-fashioned style of personal service coupled with hands-on visits and site surveys to help with risk management, yet a contemporary approach to giving fast, flexible service.
